THE EFFECTIVENESS OF USING SPECIFIC MEANS OF PREVENTION OF VIRAL DISEASES OF SMALL ANIMALS
All-Russian research Institute of brucellosis and tuberculosis of animals, Omsk
With the development of canine and feline services in the Russian Federation has the opportunity to conduct selection work and to carry out breeding of animals on a high professional level. Migration of small animals from different regions and countries increases the possibility of introduction and spread of certain diseases, including some not previously recorded in these areas.
Achievements of domestic and world science in the field of veterinary medicine enables specialists to continually improve professional knowledge and qualifications.
Based on the data of scientific experiments and using our experience in the veterinary practitioners, the leaders of the global biological industry produce the most effective means, in the first place to protect animals from viral and infectious diseases.
The need for specific prophylaxis there is no doubt among veterinary professionals, dog trainers and breeders, breeders and most pet owners.
Analyzing the data of studies conducted in laboratory small animals VNIIBT for the period from 1997 to 2001, of 11,000 owners of small Pets about 20% turned to the veterinary specialistami about preventive immunization. The vast majority of the animals were aged 3-4 months.
Prophylactic immunization of small animals in the first place should be aimed at protection from zooanthroponosis: rabies, leptospirosis and vysokochastotnykh viral diseases recorded in the area.
In Siberia a particular threat to carnivores is a plague. The canine distemper virus is susceptible to many species and individuals of different ages. In our practice there was a registered case of disease by a plague of four-month-old bear with the manifestation of classical features, characteristic of the nervous form. The diagnosis was confirmed by laboratory tests using ELISA, after which doubts were dispelled.
Mostly recorded plague among dogs and has no age specifics. We have registered cases of plague as a puppy at two months of age and the adult population up to 11 years. Observed that animals recover from life-long immunity to the virus plague is not saved, as well as vaccinated. This indicates the need for specific prophylaxis against plague throughout the animals ‘ lives.
One of the most dangerous and common disease for dogs and cats is parvovirus enteritis (cats – panleukopenia), which takes place in most cases sperotto or acute and is characterized by a high degree of lethality. To prevent parvovirus are available and widely used reliable means of specific protection. For parvovirosis is the typical age characteristics of animals. Virus enteritis of young animals are most sensitive to 12-16 months of age. However, in our practice there were some cases parvovirosis adult dogs. For example, in 1999 it was detected the presence of parvovirus in the sample faeces of five giant-Schnauzer with signs of diarrhea.
Resistance of calves of milk period to the virus enteritis is due to the presence kolostralnogo immunity. Therefore to produce livestock that are resistant to parvovirus it is advisable to create a busy immunity in breeding stock. It is recommended no later than one month before mating, females from revaktsinirujut enteritis.
In recent years ( 1999 – 2001 ) in the city of Omsk in small animals are registered some diseases not found in this area previously: adenovirus, calicivirus and others. The lack of means of laboratory diagnosis of these diseases complicates the diagnosis, and the treatment is usually determined based on clinical examination according to the symptom complex. Sometimes these funds are not enough and there comes a lethal outcome.
In the last five years (1997 – 2001) in the laboratory, small animals were recorded 835 animals with suspected viral diseases: plague, parvovirus enteritis. The biosample from these animals were subjected to laboratory examination and in 27 % cases revealed the presence of the plague virus, and parvovirus. All the sick animals and virus carriers in throughout life have not been immunized against viral diseases.
For the purpose of specific prophylaxis small animals from especially dangerous infectious and viral diseases in the Russian Federation use of mono – and polyvalent vaccines of domestic and import production, which meets all requirements and standards and is able to create a tight immunity for a certain period.
The choice of vaccine and schemes of its application depends on the breed, age of animal, the destination and some other factors.
